In the early days, long before my children, I dabbled a bit in oils. Much as I loved the way I could layer the colours and change my mind about where I was going with a painting, I was frustrated with the length of time oils took to dry. Also, I was not a fan of the fumes. This painting of Pigeon Spire in the Bugaboos is an exercise I created for myself in trying to recreate a photo from a book I own. It is also the last painting I attempted to do in oils. Work and raising a young family distracted me and seemed to leave me with little time and energy for painting. It was several years before I again attempted to paint.
