It's that time of year again and the annual festival is on in the valley. Both of my paintings, Columbia Wetlands III and IV, are on display at Pynelogs.
I've been working steadily on a large painting for the show in August but the migrating birds flocking around my feeders inspired me to take a break and try something different. I had a couple of small 8 inch square gallery canvases awaiting inspiration and the little birds outside the window where my easel sits begged me to try and capture them. Although I've only done landscapes up until now, it was time to try and capture something live on canvas. The striking little white-crowned sparrows love the sunflower seeds that have spilled on the ground. The house finch flew to the other side and took a rest amongst the lilac bushes which were just beginning to bud.
